Link and media filters

Link and media filters help keep spam, phishing, and unwanted files out of the chat.

You can restrict:

  • Telegram links;
  • external links;
  • app links;
  • @username mentions and bot usernames.

You can also set allowed domains and choose whether the rules apply to moderators.

The link filter also checks destination URLs in buttons attached to messages, including media without a caption. The same link rules and allowed domains apply. Buttons without a URL do not trigger the link filter on their own.

Media filter

You can limit photos, videos, GIFs, voice messages, audio, documents, and stickers, and set a file size limit. There is an option to apply the filter to moderators.

Owners are always exempt from these filters.

In short

Decide which links and media types are allowed, then what happens when someone breaks the rule.

See the Telegram anti-spam overview for the protection workflow, then use this article to configure the filters.

Tip

The group owner is usually exempt even when “apply to moderators” is enabled.
